Driving directions

CAUTION! These track notes are intended for evaluation purposes only and should not be relied upon as a sole guide to this walk/climb. They should be used in conjunction with the suggested topographical map/s and guide book/s listed above. Inexperienced trekkers/climbers are advised to read our getting started section.

This is a fascinating walk for those interested in aboriginal history along with the magnificent views of Kangaroo valley.

After following the driving directions the walk begins at the unmistakable hair pin bend at the top of Cambewarra Pass. Either park in the side road next to the house or, alternatively you will find parking for a few cars at the start of the walking track itself.

Directly apposite the hair pin bend is a dirt road leading up a steep hill. There are 5 private roads leading off to the right and left of the road. Approximately 2km from the start is a road to the left that is not private. This road leads to a set of towers and also an aboriginal site where grinding grooves in the rocks were once used by local aborigines to sharpen axes and other tools.

Follow this road for about a kilometre until you come to a building with a wire fence around it. Pass along the right hand side of the building and head directly towards the scrub in front of you. A bit of searching around here will reveal an old overgrown 4WD track. Follow this track for a short distance into the bush until you reach the aboriginal site. It will be partially surrounded by log fences. Please respect this and other historic sites during your visits to them.

Following the track beyond this point will bring you to the edge of the escarpment and reveal spectacular views of the south coast.

Save your fuel for getting out there - use the internet to buy gear - You'll be miles ahead

After retracing your steps back to the main dirt road turn left. After walking a further 3km you will come to an obvious "Y" junction. (Some of the right hand turns prior to this junction can resemble Y junctions. Resist the temptation to take them. The one you need will be obvious). Take the right hand track at this junction and you will soon see the last private road on the right. Go left here. Continue on for a further 1km until you reach the trig station.

Returning from the trig station keep a look out for some rocky areas on your left. These also contain aboriginal grinding grooves. The cliff tops near hear make for a great lunch spot.

Return to your vehicle via the same route.
